UTILITIESElectricity Most appliances in Fiji are suited for 240V electrical current, although outlets with 110V currents are readily available in most Fiji hotels. Three-pin power outlets similar to those in vogue in the southern hemisphere (e.g. Australia and New Zealand) are common in Fiji. Internet Services Broadband hasn't quite caught on in Fiji, and most Internet cafes, hotels, and resorts provide Internet access through dial-up connections. I-Surf Prepaid Internet cards has sponsored Internet kiosks at the Nadi International Airport, where I-Surf Prepaid Internet outlets throughout the area sell prepaid cards for travelers to use and access the World Wide Web. Mobile Phone Services Fiji is readily accessible via mobile network; in Nadi, the preferred mobile network provider is Vodafone. To contact local numbers, one need only dial directly; to speak to someone overseas, one must remember to include 00, the country code, and area code of the person to whom one wishes to speak. International roaming with one's service provider in one's respective country must be enabled for one to access the Vodafone network. Postal Services The Fijian national government owns Post Fiji Limited, Fiji's official postal service provider. Post Fiji's extensive network of post offices and agencies – a powerful chain of providers made up of more than 300 outlets – delivers over 45 million letters and parcels to more than 60,000 delivery points throughout Fiji and abroad. Post Fiji also assists locals and tourists with money orders, locks, and faxing. Public Telephones One can purchase a Telecard, Fiji's national phone-loading service, from over 2,000 vendors throughout Fiji. These cards – available in $50, $20, $10, $5 and $3 denominations – can be used to make person-to-person calls using public phone booths. Visiting Nadi, Fiji Islands, stay at one of the best Fiji Hotel, Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel. It is your rustic home away from home. |
